What is Surbhi Milk?
Surbhi Milk is Pure A2 Desi Cow Milk that is Raw and unprocessed. Milk is not procured and is produced at our own farms from indigenous breed of Indian Cows (Bos Indicus) a different subspecies of cows that produce the healthy A2 milk as opposed the regular species like Holstein Friesians and Jersey cows that produce the harmful A1 milk.
What makes Surbhi Milk special?
Our milk has conjugated linoleic acid, which supports immune system and is an anti-cancer agent. Milk has A2 protein that helps improve intelligence and development of children’s brain. It has more than 25 types of minerals and vitamins, for production of healthy cells. Medicinal properties of the herbs and fodder the cows graze are passed in this milk and have therapeutic properties.
What is A2 Milk?
A2 Milk is pure and natural farm fresh milk, permeate and additive free, that is rich in the A2 type of beta-casein protein because it comes from specially selected Desi Gir cows that naturally produce only the A2 protein and not A1 protein.
Difference between A1 and A2 type milk?
• Casein is the largest group of proteins in milk, making up about 80% of total protein content. There are several types of casein in milk, and beta-casein is second most common.
• Two most common forms of beta-casein are A1 beta-casein and A2 beta-casein
• Milk from foreign breeds (Jersey and Holstein Friesian) contain A1 protein.
• Milk from Indian cow breeds contain A2 protein. Surbhi Milk is A2 milk
Harmful effects of A1 milk?
Harmful effects are mentioned below:
• Presence of amino acid called BCM 7(beta-casomorphin 7) makes it harmful for consumption
• Type-1 diabetes in children when pregnant women consume A1 milk.
• Cardiovascular disease (IHD)
• Alzheimer's disease at old age.
• Casein is involved (with gluten) in Autism and Schizophrenia. In fact, Casomorphin is more damaging to the brain than the Gliadorphin from gluten.
• Casomorphin’s drug-like effect explains why it worsens anxiety and mood disorders and causes cravings for dairy and sugar. Also why it causes withdrawal symptoms when it’s stopped.
• Delayed psychomotor development among children, Autism, Schizophrenia, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) auto-immune diseases, intolerances and allergies.
• Those with digestive disorders like stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Celiac disease, on long term medication or antibiotic treatment are at higher risk.
• It causes digestive problems, and not because of the lactose. It’s because of the massive histamine release from Casomorphin.
• Immune disruption by A1 Casein can worsen those childhood conditions, and then in adulthood, the same immune disruption can drive other inflammatory conditions
• A1 milk can worsen acne, eczema, upper respiratory infections, asthma, and allergies.
Benefits of A2 type of milk?
• Prevent obesity among children and adults
• Improve brain function
• Promotes digestion
• Increase breast milk production in feeding mothers.
• Prevents joint pain, asthma and mental problems.
• Promotes good kidney health
• Increases immunity
• Reduces acidity and bloating problems
• Helps in reducing chances of colon, breast and skin cancer
• One of the best natural anti-oxidants
• After mother’s milk, it is cow’s milk only which gives energy and full protection
• Detoxifies Body
• Enhances Memory Power
• Increases clarity of Voice
• Helps in reduction against PMS symptoms in the menstruation cycle
• Prevents migraine headache
• Good for thyroid balance
Indigenous Indian cows (A2 cows) and Jersey and Holstein Friesian Cows (A1 cows)?
• Milk of foreign breed cows contain a poisonous chemical called Casomorphine (BCM7) Jersey cows have lesser and smaller sweat glands, thus not suitable for tropical climates like in India
• Jersey cows have higher maintenance cost and more prone to diseases due their physical structure as they are difficult to be cured by means of native Indian medicines
• Jersey cows give A1 type of milk and also carries more amount of pathogens
• Jersey cows are lazy in nature and not suitable for hard work
• Indigenous cow breeds are intelligent and always prefer clean areas to sit which helps them to avoid any diseases.
• Maintenance cost is less for Indian cows since they eat limited amount of fodder and can be treated with local Indian medicines.
• Indian cows can also survive when there is food shortage and do not suffer from long term diseases (most of the times)
How is A2 Milk made?
The single most important factor in producing our delicious A2 Milk is to find the right dairy cows. Unlike other dairy farmers, our dairy exclusively select cows that naturally produce milk rich in the A2 type of beta-casein. This is done by using a simple and non-invasive DNA genotype test we have developed, which analyses a sample blood/hair from the tail of each dairy cow. Only these A2-certified cows are then milked to produce pure and natural A2 Milk.
How is A2 Milk different to regular cows’ milk brands?
All regular cows’ milk brands today contain a combination of two main types of beta-casein protein, namely A1 and A2. A2 Milk is special because it is the only exception to this. What makes A2 Milk different to regular cows’ milk is the absence of the A1 protein. It is the A1 protein that many people seek to avoid by switching from regular cow's milk to A2 Milk.
Will A2 Milk improve my digestive well-being?
A2 Milk does not contain A1 beta-casein protein which has been shown to release the opioid BCM-7 on digestion. A2 Milk only contains A2 beta-casein protein and the structure of A2 beta-casein doesn't release of BCM-7 on digestion.
Does A2 Milk contain lactose?
Yes, A2 Milk contains levels of lactose comparable to that of standard milk. If the switch to A2 Milk allows you to enjoy all of the significant benefits of dairy again, without disturbance to your digestive well-being, this is occurring in the presence of lactose.
Does Surbhi Milk contain permeate?
Surbhi Milk does not contain any permeate or any other additives which is why it tastes so refreshing, as real milk should taste.
Does A2 Milk have the same calcium levels as regular milk?
Yes, A2 Milk contains roughly the same amounts of calcium and other important minerals as other unfortified milks.
What is beta-casein?
Beta-casein is a type of protein that makes up one third of the protein in milk. It is a high quality milk protein that is a source of essential amino acids, as well as peptides.
What is a protein?
Proteins are large biological molecules made up of long chains of amino acids.
What is meant by SNF value and Fat content?
• Milk SNF means Milk Solids-not-Fat comprising protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, etc in milk other than milk fat. When heated for pasteurization nutritional value of milk reduces as heat changes the molecular structures.
• “Whole milk” means natural raw composition of milk without any processing.
• Homogenized” milk (abbreviated to refers to milk which is 3.25% butterfat (or milk fat).
• There are also skim milk, 1%, and 2% milk fat milks.
• Ideally quality of milk should be based on SNF. That is where nutrition comes from.
Why prefer Desi cow milk over buffalo milk for urban consumption?
• Fat content is high (7.5) in buffalo milk as compared to desi cow milk (4.3)
• Fat intake in cities is way higher as compared to fat burn rate (via exercise)
• Desi cow milk is like mother’s milk. It has saturated fat (SF) 55-58%
• Melting point of desi cow milk SF is 37 degrees while buffalo milk is 40 degrees. Average human body temperature is 37.2 degrees. Hence easily digestible
• Desi cow milk is good for all, infant and adults. It increases LDL and lowers HDL and hence good for heart patients to improve heart functioning.
Why is Desi cow milk yellowish in color?
• Cow milk fat contains a coloring pigment called Beta-carotene (a carotenoid which is precursor of vitamin-A).
• Whereas buffalo milk lacks the same thus it is not yellowish like desi cow milk.
What is Pasteurized Milk?
Pasteurization is a method to control bacterial activity in which milk is first boiled to certain temperature (70-85 Celsius) and then rapidly cooled. Pasteurization is need of Dairy industry as they procure milk from long distances and to increase the shelf life they have pasteurize milk to further supply long distances. But in this process the nutritional value of milk is reduced to below 10%. Hence we supply raw wholesome milk to customers as soon as it is milked with 100% nutritional values. Milk should not be boiled repeatedly or overheated. Tetra pack sterilized milk which is sold at Rs.70-80 and has 3% fat is heated at temperatures more than 2500 Celsius thus making it as good as dead milk and hence such milk can be kept outside refrigeration for more than 6 months. Milk powder is also processed same way and dried. It is very common sense that every living or organic matter has shelf life decided by nature. Only dead and inorganic matter can stay for long.
What is Homogenized Milk?
Homogenization process involves high temperatures, agitation, and filtration to break down the natural fat molecules and mix these broken fat molecules in the Milk. When you homogenize milk, you not only change the size of the fat globules, you also rearrange the fat and protein molecules which could alter how they act in the human body. It is believed that this milk poses threat to heart health. Surbhi cow milk is non- homogenized milk.
What is Toned Milk?
Toned milk is a method, developed in India, of treating buffalo milk by adding skim milk, powdered skim milk and water to buffalo milk. This process decreases the fat content, increases the quantity of available milk, and ‘tones up’ the nonfat solids level to the original amount thereby reducing the cost. Surbhi milk is non toned milk.
What is Whole Milk?
• Milk containing all its constituents as received from the cow is called Whole- Milk.
• Milk from which no constituents such as unsaturated fats and other essential minerals have been removed.
• Surbhi milk is Whole Milk.
Which Cows are reared?
Indigenous Indian (desi) breed cows. Focus is on Gir cows at present which are procured from Gujarat.
What are Gir cows? (All Indian cows have similar basic traits)
• The Gir is a famous milk cattle breed of India. Native tract of the breed is Gir hills and forests of Kathiawar including Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Amreli districts of Gujarat.
• Coat color of Gir animals varies from shades of red and white to almost black and white or entire red.
• Skin colour is dominantly black but in a few animals it is brown
• Forehead is prominent, convex and broad like a bony shield. This overhangs eyes in such a way that they appear to be partially closed and the animal shows sloppy appearance. Ears are long and pendulous and folded like a leaf with a notch at the tip. Horns are curved turning back at the tip. They orient downwards and backwards from the base and incline a little upwards and forwards, thereafter.
• Gir animals have moderately developed dewlap; males have a large and pendulous sheath. Tail is long and whip like; hooves are black and medium-sized; hair is short and glossy; skin is loose and pliable; hipbones are prominent; the body is well proportioned; the udder in cows is well developed and round and teat tips are round.
How is the cow milked?
• Indian cows respond well to affection and care.
• During milking process calf gets first right to drink. Once done, cowherd hand milk’s the cow hygienically.
• Hygiene is maintained during the process and by the cowherd. Only Food grade Stainless steel can and buckets are used. Plastic and Aluminium cans are not used in any process as they are not food safe.
• No use of machines since it over-squeezes and dries the udder. Also when we do hand milking we can check any problem in milk before milking out completely and in machines it cannot be detected. Thus spurious milk if any is avoided.
Organic/Natural fodder?
• We have performed nutritional and pesticide residue testing of the milk. It is natural, chemical free and pure by test.
• Grazing grass is organic since they grow under natural conditions. Hydroponic fodder is given to cows which is 100% organic.
• Cows are provided combination of green and dry fodder. Cattle feed supplement is given which has 0% urea mixed and Ayurvedic herbs are given to cows to keep them healthy and strong.
• Since the region has Sugarcane and Maize farms, cows are also given sugarcane. This gives them good energy and mild sweetness in milk.
• We grow our own green fodder by using the Dung Manure and organic bio pesticides from the cow’s urine.
Dead/old/diseased/non-milking cows?
• Dead: They are buried with due respect.
• Old: we rear them till full age.
• Diseased: Cowherd ensures safe treatment (Natural Ayurvedic/Homeopathy). Cow is not milked during the treatment phase.
• Non-milking: Kept at farm till next milking process. By-products are used for organic farming purposes.
• Male calves grow up to become bulls used for mating/farming. Bull exchange has been an old followed tradition which helps diversity in the herd quality of cowherds.
• Hence we follow Ahimsa (protective) process of serving cows even after its motherhood.
Importance of cow grazing?
• Cows can have a variety of grass which helps them to choose between the ones with different medicinal qualities
• There is a direct contact with sunlight. Suryaketu Nadi is situated at the head of the cow which is acts as the receptor of sunlight and vitamin D produced flows through this Nadi to udder of the cow where milk is produced. Therefore Swarna molecules as present in milk of such cows.
• They get to exercise and remain active. Disease is less found in grazing cows.
How is Surbhi milk preserved?
• Milk is refrigerated under 4 degrees Celsius after milking and then distributed within 1-2 hours of packing. Farm fresh milk reaches to you with full of nutrients.
• It is recommended to customers to boil the milk within one hour they receive it to maintain the shelf life of milk and then refrigerate it.
